Video Studio: mind dump in, video out.

Turn your notes, a call transcript or an infographic into a finished explainer video. You approve every step.

What it is

Explain heavy ideas as video, on your own.

For people who aren't designers or editors. You explain hard, technical ideas to people who aren't technical, and video is the best way to do it.

In

Your mind dump

  • Rough notes or a call transcript
  • A deck or an infographic
  • A reference video whose look you like
Out

A finished MP4

  • Script, voice, animation, music, sound
  • In the style and brand you pick
  • A description with the credits
No

What you don't need

  • A designer or an editor
  • Editing software
  • Any code

It runs inside the Claude desktop app as a skill: a set of instructions and tools Claude follows step by step.

5Build + render

Builds every scene, adds music and sound, renders the MP4.

You getThe MP4 + a description with credits
You reviewa fix redoes only that part
Claude does it You decide ↺Not right? Say what to change. Claude redoes that stage and shows you again.

Every project gets a live board in your browser: what's happening now, what needs you, and all five stages.

Set up this computer for the Video Studio pipeline. It is a Mac or a Windows PC. I am not a developer and I am using the Code tab of the Claude desktop app, so do everything for me, explain each step in one short plain sentence, and only ask me when you need my password or a click.

Work in this order and check before installing anything (skip what is already there, never downgrade, never remove anything). Paths below use ~ for my home folder (on Windows that is %USERPROFILE%, e.g. C:\Users\my-name).

1. Detect the system: macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel) or Windows (x64 or ARM). Tell me which, then follow only the lines for my system.
2. Package manager:
   - Mac: Homebrew. If `brew` is missing, do not run the installer yourself, because it needs my Mac password. Give me the one official install command from https://brew.sh to paste into the app's Terminal (the Terminal button in the title bar, or Ctrl+`). Tell me that nothing shows while I type my password, and wait until I say "done". Then make sure `brew` is on my PATH for new shells (follow Homebrew's "Next steps" output).
   - Windows: winget (built into Windows 10/11 as Microsoft's App Installer). Check `winget --version`; if it is missing, tell me to install "App Installer" from the Microsoft Store and wait until I say "done". Add `--accept-source-agreements --accept-package-agreements` to every winget install. Before each install, tell me Windows may ask "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" and that I should click Yes.
   - Windows only: Git for Windows (recommended for Claude Code on Windows). Check `git --version`; if missing, `winget install --id Git.Git -e`.
3. Node.js 22 or newer (HyperFrames needs 22+):
   - Check `node -v`. If missing or older than 22: Mac `brew install node@22`, then link it (`brew link --overwrite --force node@22`); Windows `winget install --id OpenJS.NodeJS.22 -e`.
   - Before upgrading an existing older Node, list my global npm packages (`npm ls -g --depth=0`) and tell me if any project folder pins an old Node version (.nvmrc / "engines"). Upgrade only if nothing would break; otherwise stop and ask.
4. FFmpeg (joins audio and video): check `ffmpeg -version`; if missing, Mac `brew install ffmpeg`; Windows `winget install --id Gyan.FFmpeg -e`.
   - Windows: tools installed by winget only show up in a new shell. Refresh PATH for this session before checking again, or tell me to start a new session and paste this prompt again (it skips what is done).
5. Python 3.10+ for the free local voice (Kokoro):
   - Check: Mac `python3 --version`; Windows `py --version` (if `python` only opens the Microsoft Store, ignore it). If missing: Mac `brew install python@3.12`; Windows `winget install --id Python.Python.3.12 -e`.
   - Create a private environment just for the voice at ~/VideoStudio/.venv (do not touch the system Python): Mac `python3 -m venv ~/VideoStudio/.venv`; Windows `py -3.12 -m venv "$env:USERPROFILE\VideoStudio\.venv"`. Then install `kokoro-onnx soundfile` into it.
   - Make HyperFrames use it: set HYPERFRAMES_PYTHON to that environment's python, for new shells and for this session too. Mac: add `export HYPERFRAMES_PYTHON=~/VideoStudio/.venv/bin/python` to ~/.zshrc. Windows: save it as a user environment variable pointing to %USERPROFILE%\VideoStudio\.venv\Scripts\python.exe.
6. HyperFrames (the video engine):
   - Check it runs: `npx -y hyperframes@latest --version`. Note the version.
   - Install the HyperFrames Claude plugin: if the `claude` command works here, run `claude plugin marketplace add heygen-com/hyperframes` then `claude plugin install hyperframes@hyperframes`. If it does not, tell me to click the + next to the prompt box, choose Add plugins, add the marketplace heygen-com/hyperframes and install "hyperframes".
7. The Video Studio skill:
   - I downloaded video-studio-skill.zip from GitHub (https://github.com/Lohith212-dev/video-studio/releases/latest/download/video-studio-skill.zip). If it isn't in ~/Downloads, download it there.
   - If ~/Downloads/video-studio-skill does not exist yet, unzip ~/Downloads/video-studio-skill.zip there (Windows: Expand-Archive).
   - Copy the folder ~/Downloads/video-studio-skill to ~/.claude/skills/video-studio (create the folders if needed).
   - Confirm ~/.claude/skills/video-studio/SKILL.md exists.
8. Smoke test, inside ~/VideoStudio:
   - `npx -y hyperframes@latest init smoke-test --example blank --non-interactive`
   - Make 3 seconds of voice: `npx -y hyperframes@latest tts "Video Studio is ready." --voice am_michael -o smoke-test/assets/hello.wav`
   - Put a title "Video Studio is ready" in the composition, add the audio, then go into smoke-test and render it: `npx -y hyperframes@latest render --output ../smoke-test.mp4`
   - Open the MP4 for me: Mac `open ../smoke-test.mp4`; Windows `Start-Process ..\smoke-test.mp4`.
9. Finish with a short checklist table: each item, the version found or installed, and OK / FIXED / NEEDS YOU. Then tell me to start a new session in the Code tab (or quit and reopen the app) so the new plugin and skill load, and that afterwards I can type: /video-studio Let's make a video about ...

If any step fails, try the obvious fix once, then explain the problem in one plain sentence and what I should do. Never use sudo with npm. Never delete files.

Mac: the password is for Homebrew. Nothing shows while you type it; that's normal. Windows: if asked "Do you want to allow this app to make changes?", click Yes.

What happens next
01

The board opens

Your project folder and its live board: the five stages and a Needs you card.

02

It asks before each stage

Script, storyboard + look, cast, preview, final. Reply in plain words: "approve", "make it shorter", "redo frame 6".

03

You get the MP4

Plus a description with every credit line, ready to post.

Optional · OpenRouter

Free by default. A key adds polish.

Free, without a key
  • Kokoro voice, on your computer
  • Free music and sound effects
  • Hand-drawn people and props
  • All drawing and animation
With an OpenRouter key (pay as you go)
  • A more expressive voice: ElevenLabs v3 through OpenRouter. About $0.08 per 1,000 characters; roughly $0.20-0.40 for a 2-3 minute video.
  • AI pictures of people and scenes: from about $0.01 per image, depending on the model.
  • Short AI video clips: available but untested; much pricier.
01

Get a key

openrouter.ai → Keys → Create key. Add a few dollars of credit.

02

Let Claude store it

Claude saves it as the environment variable OPENROUTER_API_KEY. It never goes into your project files.

03

It asks before spending

Each paid batch shows the estimated cost first and waits for your yes.

Prices change; check openrouter.ai/models. The expressive voice and AI people were tested on one video; other paid models weren't.
